For a successive term, Mumbai will have a woman mayor. The mayor’s seat this time is in the open category, but reserved for a woman corporator. The last time the seat was reserved for a woman corporator from the Other Backward Caste (OBC). The mayor’s term is for two-and-ahalf years. But mayor, Shubha Raul, got a three-month extension till December 10. On Tuesday, the government declared the various reservation for the mayor’s seat in 22 civic corporations across the state. The drawing of lots was held on the sixth floor in Mantralaya. But there was confusion for nearly an hour on how to rotate the reservations. Minister of state for urban development Bhaskar Jadhav moderated the drawing of lots as even officials were not sure on how it should be done. As per the final results, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ahmednagar and Ulhasnagar will have a woman mayor from the open category. So also for Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kalyan-Dombivli, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, Amravati, Akola and Solapur. Bureau report – NMTV News.
