Several woman organizations protested outside the DCP office of zone 6 in Chembur. The morcha was conducted against the rape cases that took place in the area and the negligent and insensitive attitude of police towards the complainants. In the span of last one and a half month, several cases of rape and attempted rape on minors have taken place in Chembur, Trombay area of Zone 6. This has created a sense of insecurity among citizens. Moreover, when they approached the police to lodge a complaint against the act, the police too have been reportedly incompetent in solving the issue. This shows the negligent attitude of police. Therefore, a morcha was conducted by 15 woman organizations functioning in the area outside the Chembur Trombay Zone 6 DCP office. We also spoke to the relative of a rape victim who informed us how they were treated when they approached police to file their complaint. Around 5000 women had participated in the protest with banners flashing their various demands (VISUALS 08:18 TO 08:28). Their demands included providing prompt medical assistance to the victim and file case against the accused and send him for medical examination immediately, results of the investigation for rape cases to be acquired with 6 months, begin the functioning of police chowkies and restarting the closed ones and so on. The representatives of the organizations also met the DCP of the zone, Dilip Sawant and put forth their demands. With cameraperson Satish Garud, Vrushali Chitre for NMTV news.
